Alan is a Research Computer Scientist at the Intel Research Laboratory in Berkeley, CA. Before joining the research lab, Alan was a researcher at Sun Microsystems Laboratories in Mountain View, CA, and member of technical staff at Thinking Machines Corporation in Cambridge, MA.

He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley in 1999, M.S. in Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley in 1995, and B.A. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Rochester in 1989.

His current research interests focus on low-cost wireless technologies for emerging regions, adaptive beam steering antenna systems based on switched parasitic systems, and sensor network technologies for applications in science and commerce.
