Hotels near the Intel Research Laboratory at Berkeley

General Comments:  Berkeley is a charming area, but sadly it has few good hotels, particularly near campus (Intel Research Berkeley is right next to campus).  Below are notes on some of the more obvious choices.

Durant Hotel

·  A little less than a mile to Intel Research Berkeley (a medium-length walk).

·  Located in the thick of Berkeley (up near Telegraph Avenue).

·  A reasonably nice hotel, especially for Berkeley.

·  General price range: US $100 - 250.

Bancroft Hotel  (Less than a mile to lab (a medium-length walk).

French Hotel   (about 0.7 miles to the lab)

·  Located in the Berkeley’s gourmet ghetto (very nice area to stay).

·  The French Hotel is a small (funky?) hotel.  There are many restaurants, grocery stores, food shops, and one good used bookstore in the area. Somewhat noisy area (due to traffic). There is a popular cafe located in the lobby.

·  General price range: US $100 - $150.

Berkeley Marina Radisson  (about a 10-20 minute drive to the lab)

·  Located on the Bay, with a great view of San Francisco, but about 4 kilometers to downtown Berkeley or the UCB campus.

·  This is the only modern hotel in Berkeley. There is a hotel restaurant and another restaurant nearby.  Note, however, that the hotel is in the middle of nowhere and that a car, taxi, or bicycle is necessary to reach the amenities of Berkeley.

·  General price range: US $100 - $250.

Howard Johnson Hotel Berkeley (about a two-minute walk to lab).

·  This is very conveniently located near the lab, but we have heard it is not very nice, so we can’t really recommend it.

·  General price range: US $ 50-100.
